Hello Rutland! ❄️🚗 This weekend is a great time to make your vehicle winter ready. Whilst our county might look very picturesque in winter, it can make driving a real challenge. Before you head out on our rural roads, make sure your car is ready for the season! Here are some top tips to keep you safe and moving:
✅ Check your tyres – Good tread and correct pressure are essential for grip on wet, icy, or snowy roads. ✅ Battery health – Cold weather is tough on batteries. If yours is older than 5 years, get it checked. ✅ Top up fluids – Screenwash (with antifreeze), oil, and coolant should all be at the right levels. ✅ Lights and wipers – Make sure they’re clean and working properly. Visibility is everything! ✅ Emergency kit – Blanket, warm clothes, water, snacks, phone charger, and a torch. You never know when you might need them. ✅ Fuel up – Keep your tank at least half full. Running out in the middle of nowhere is no fun! ✅ Drive to the conditions – Slow down, leave extra space, and avoid harsh braking or acceleration. And please, don’t leave your car running unattended to defrost – it’s a gift for thieves and your insurance may not cover you if it’s stolen. Road safety is one of Rutland’s top priorities, and these simple checks can prevent breakdowns and accidents. Let’s keep our roads safe this winter! Thank you. Stay safe and warm. |
